Hanging Pendants
When hanging a pendant above your kitchen island, we recommend following the general guidelines above. You should also consider the height of people in your household and how you will use the space. If you will be standing at your island more often than sitting, we recommend hanging your fixture at the higher end of the suggested range.
To calculate the overall height (OAH) for your fixture, you will need to confirm the height of your ceiling and table or countertop. For example, if you have an 8ft (or 96”) ceiling and you would like the light to be 36” above your 36”h countertop, the formula to determine the pendant OAH is below:
Overall height of fixture = ceiling height (96”) - counter height (36”) - desired clearance (36”) = 24” OAH

The same formula can be applied for hanging a pendant above your dining table!
